Freedom House once again referred Azerbaijan to countries with non-free Internet
Baku/21.09.21/Turan: The US-based international human rights organization Freedom House published the annual report "Internet Freedom 2021"on September 21. The report analyzes the situation with Internet freedom in 70 countries in 6 regions of the world.
Thus, Freedom House lays an emphasis on the deterioration of global freedom over the past 11 years. The greatest deterioration was recorded in Myanmar, Belarus and Uganda where state agencies used violence during electoral and constitutional crises.
For example, governments conflicted with technology companies demanding to limit the rights of users. Over the past year, the authorities of, at least, 48 countries have introduced new rules for technology companies due to the content.
Note that Azerbaijan has again been included in the list of countries with non-free Internet with 35 points. Along with Azerbaijan, there are Kazakhstan (33), Belarus (31), Russia (31) and Iran (16) in the same category.
Also, Georgia has 77 points, Armenia -71 and the situation there is better.
According to the same report, in January this year, the police in Azerbaijan visited a user's house under the guise of an employment service. After that, the user was detained, beaten and forced to apologize for posting publications on Facebook criticizing the local authorities.
It has to kept in mind that In the previous years, the Azerbaijani government has also been criticized for restricting freedom and censorship on the Internet.
Official Baku refutes these accusations emphasizing that the Internet is completely free in Azerbaijan. -16D-
