Harlem Dezir calls on to create conditions for the work of journalists in Azerbaijan
Baku/19.03.19 / Turan: The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Arlem Dezir, condemned the conviction of Anar Mammadov, the editor of the criminal.az website.
In his Twitter account, he wrote that the conviction of Mammadov once again testifies to the alarming state of freedom of expression and media in Azerbaijan.
"I urge the authorities to reconsider at the appeal stage this matter and create conditions for the smooth operation of journalists," wrote Desir.
Mammadov was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison with a two-year probation period on charges of anti-state conscription, abuse of power and official forgery. The reason for bringing him to criminal responsibility was the publication on the website criminal.az about the assassination attempt on the former head of the city of Ganja, Elmar Veliyev. -06D--
