Message from the British Ambassador to Baku on the occasion of 139th anniversary of Azerbaijan"s National Press Day
“I am delighted to congratulate Azerbaijan’s journalists on the occasion of National Press Day and to acknowledge the important contribution journalists make in Azerbaijan. Freedom of expression and the existence of free media are fundamental requirements for the building of a flourishing democracy and for creating a stable and inclusive society. Encouraging an open and effective press serves to help ensure governments are effective and responsive, which is crucial for long-term development.
The UK government is a strong supporter of freedom of expression. We at the British Embassy in Baku are proud to support efforts to build an accurate, impartial and independent media in Azerbaijan.” –16D06--
