Society must condemn investigators and judges who violate human rights
A meeting of the Committee for Civil Society (CSC) took place in the office of the National Committee of the Helsinki Citizens' Assembly (HCA) on Friday.
Co-Chairman of the HCA Arzu Abdullayeva, focused attention on the problem of political prisoners. It is proposed to launch a campaign of public censure investigators and judges pursuing political prisoners.
Just like the opposition newspapers publish photos of political prisoners, the media can place a photo by investigators that falsify criminal cases, and judges bringing the unjust sentences of activists and journalists.
This campaign can be conducted in social networks too. It is necessary to arrange such a campaign against judges, whose decisions were recognized by the European Court as a violation of human rights.
Abdullayeva also noted the need to adopt targeted sanctions against violators of human rights. Executive Secretary of the "REAL" Movement Natig Jafarli drew attention to the pressure exerted in prison on the leader of this organization Ilgar Mamedov.
All efforts to bring to this matter the members of the Public Committee for the monitoring of places of detention at the Ministry of Justice, were futile. There was also a need to enhance the efforts of civil society to carry out electoral reform. Following the discussions, it was decided to adopt an appeal to the appropriate organs on convicted issues.
* CSC was created in 2009 when the first wave of introducing reactionary amendments to the law on NGOs began. Then it united about 100 independent NGOs, including those organizations whose leaders are now under arrest. Currently, due to the criminal prosecution of many NGOs and arrests of the leaders of some of them, about 20 activists are actively involved in the CSC. -05C06-
