The court threatens to close "Azadlig" newspaper
On 14th October the Yasamal Court sent a warning to the "Azadlig" newspaper, demanding they pay the fine in relation to the suit of Kabira Mamedova, the chief of the “Bina” shopping center by 24th October. If the newspaper does not pay the fine, the newspaper's bank account will be closed, reads the statement of "Azadlig" newspaper, the leading opposition daily newspaper of the country.
In turn, the leadership of the publishing house "Azerbaijan", where the editorial office of "Azadlig" is located, announced that it would suspend publication of the newspaper, if 5,000 manat are not paid by 21st October. In addition, the police have banned the sale of "Azadlig" newspaper near the metro stations.
The statement authors reiterate that the press distribution company "Gasid" is due to pay the newspaper an outstanding debt of approximately 50,000 manat, but are refusing to pay.
The newspaper "Azadlig" states it will never give up its mission of the fourth power, remaining true to historical traditions and principles. The paper calls on the authorities to stop trying to silence them. The paper also calls on the public and readers of the newspaper to increase support in this difficult situation. -16D04-

On December 28, the trial of Abzas Media began, with the prosecutor reading the indictment. On 28 December, the Baku Court for Serious Crimes presided over by Azad Mejidov sentenced Teymur Kerimov, founder of Internet TV ‘Kanal 11’, to 8 years of imprisonment.
