Armed incident on the Azerbaijani-Iranian border

On July 24, at 03:30, two unknown persons violated the state border from Iran towards Azerbaijan  at the official territory of the border detachment "Geytepe" of the Border Troops of Azerbaijan.

According to the press service of the State Border Guard Service (SBGS) of Azerbaijan, the border violators ignored the demands of the border guards and offered armed resistance. The criminals took advantage of the dark time of day and the difficult terrain and fled the scene.

As a result of the armed incident, two border guards were slightly wounded and received the necessary medical assistance. At the same time, the border guards, using weapons against the violators, wounded one of them.

During the inspection of the territory, narcotic drugs with a total weight of 10 kg 882 g, a night vision device, a rifle, shell casings and cartridges left by the escaped criminals were found.

A meeting of the border representatives of Azerbaijan and Iran took place at the scene of the incident. Currently, operational investigative measures are being carried out jointly with the staff of the prosecutor's office, the SBGS press release.
