Bailiffs threaten to put a well-known lawyer on the wanted list
Baku/01.06.21/Turan: Despite the persons convicted of the Ismayilli events of 2013 have long been at large, and the main "defendant" Ilgar Mammadov has been rehabilitated by the presidium of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan, the bailiffs demand payment fine from the lawyer Fuad Agayev, who defended Mammadov at the trial. In January 2014, in the Sheki Serious Crimes Court, Agayev challenged the composition of the court. He pointed out the impossibility of effectively protecting the rights of the accused, since the court rejects all the petitions, and the witnesses are present in the hall and act at the prompting of the prosecutor.
However, judge Rashid Huseynov did not grant the petition, and even fined Agayev 220 manats (at the then exchange rate of 270 dollars).
“Tofig Yagublu, Ilgar Mammadov and others, convicted of the Ismayilli events, have been at large for a long time. Mammadov was even rehabilitated by the Plenum of the Supreme Court. Seven years have passed since the appointment of a fine for my professional activity. The Judge Rashid Huseynov died (therefore, I refrain from using a harsh word in relation to him). Nevertheless, the Department of Enforcement and Probation of the Khatai District is threatening me,” Agayev wrote on his facebook page.
The lawyer was required to appear at the indicated department with an identity card and providing information about the place of residence. Otherwise, the lawyer was threatened with a wanted list.
Lawyer Agayev is one of the most famous and experienced lawyers in Azerbaijan, known for protecting many political prisoners. He is a co-author of the draft Constitutional Act on the State Independence of Azerbaijan, adopted in October 1991. — 06B-
