Elgiz Gahraman is placed to a punishment cell
Baku / 12.10.18 / Turan: Elgiz Gahraman, a member of the NIDA movement, who is serving a prison sentence in jail N 14, has been kept in a punishment cell for the second day , said his father Jamal Gahramanov. According to him, he is subjected to physical pressure. " We met with him on October 7. He himself said nothing, it is not in his character. He never complains that we do not worry. I learned about pressure from another source," said the father of the activist.
Coordinator of the NIDA Movement, Samir Asadli, said that the new head of the jail N 14 Namiq Gojayev tortures political prisoners. Immediately after the appointment, he began to insult the blogger Mehman Huseynov and Elgiz Gahraman, limited their right to telephone conversations. The rights of other prisoners who are tortured and beaten are also violated, Asadli said.
The Prison Service rejects allegations of unjustified punishment and beating of Gahraman. The head of the public relations department, Mehman Sadigov, said that convicts were imprisoned in a penalty cell for violating discipline. Prior to this, a preventive conversation is conducted with prisoners; if they do not obey, they are transferred to a penalty cell.
Sadigov also denied reports of beating prisoners. At the same time, he said: "If a convict has physical resistance, tries to cause damage to the staff of the institution and other prisoners, he is handcuffed, batons and other special means are applied. This is carried out in accordance with the law and must be amended. If the convict is not satisfied, he can complain to the court, Sadigov said.
* Elgiz Gahraman was arrested in August 2016 on charges of a large scale drug trafficking, and sentenced to 5.5 years in prison. However, the real reason for the arrest was the sarcastic status of the constitutional referendum on September 26, 2016. The Supreme Court subsequently reduced the sentence to three years in prison. E.Gahraman is recognized by human rights organizations as political prisoners. -06D--
