Jafarov Calls ECHR to Review D. Askerov and Sh. Guliyev Case
Contained in jail, the rights activist Rasul Jafarov within the campaign Voices of Victims appealed to the European Court of Human Rights to consider as a priority the case of two residents of Kalbajar Dilgam Askerov and Shahbaz Guliyev captured by Armenians.
The appeal states that their deprivation of liberty is violation of international humanitarian law.
Arrested Rasul Jafarov launched a campaign Voices of Victims on the eve of the 25th anniversary of the 20 January events in order to assess the mass murder of civilians in Baku on January 20, 1990.
** The head of the Club of Human Rights, the coordinator of the campaign Art for Democracy Rasul Jafarov was arrested on 2 August 2014 on charges of illegal business, tax evasion and abuse of office. Subsequently, he was also charged with embezzlement and official forgery.
He denies the charges and says they are politically motivated.
Amnesty International recognizes Jafarov a prisoner of conscience. -0-
