Metropolitan Police Do Not Respond to Courts Request: on Trial of Musavat Activist
Baku / 08.07.19 / Turan: The Baku Court of Grave Crimes chaired by Judge Irada Hasanova on Monday continued the trial of the case of the activist of the Musavat party Azad Hasanov.
Today, the head of the party Arif Hajili, the chairman of the Popular Front Party Ali Kerimli, the former head of Musavat, Isa Gambar, and political and civil activists came to observe the trial.
The judge announced that, at the request of lawyer Osman Kyazimov, a request was sent to the Baku Police Headquarters to provide extracts from the registration books about those who visited this department on the day of Hasanov"s detention - October 11, 2018. However, there was no answer.
"They say judicial reform is being carried out. What kind of reform is this if the police do not respond to the elementary request of the court?" said lawyer Kyazimov, addressing the judges.
The lawyer also pointed to the false testimony of police officers that immediately after Hasanov"s arrest his family was notified about that.
As evidence, the lawyer presented an audit of 3 telephone calls from Hasanov"s brother to the "hotline" of the MIA "102". A "102" employee only after 6 hours after the arrest replied that the Baku police would inform relatives about the activist"s fate.
"When my brother called the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the third time, the court already arrested him, but we were not informed about this," the defendant himself said in turn.
The trial will continue July 15.
Hasanov told Turan in the courtroom that the accusations against him were "slander and lies." He said that he felt normal, and he did not complain about the conditions of detention.
Hasanov also noted that he supports the charity Marathon of Solidarity and he will give money through relatives to raise funds to pay fines for opposition activists.
* Hasanov has been in political emigration in Lithuania since 2014. On October 11, 2018, he returned to Baku due to a serious illness of his father and was detained on the same day. He was charged under Art. 234.4.3 (drug trafficking on a large scale) of the Criminal Code. Human rights activists recognized him as a political prisoner. -03B06--
