137th Anniversary of Mammad Emin Rasulzadeh’s Birth
Baku/31.01.21/Turan: January 31 marks the 137th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding political and public figure of Azerbaijan, Mammad Emin Rasulzadeh, one of the founders of the Azerbaijan People's Republic (APR), the first democratic republic in the Muslim East.
In connection with the coronavirus pandemic, today there are no mass gatherings at his monument in the village of Novkhany. Nevertheless, numerous representatives of the public and opposition figures arrived at the monument to honor the memory of Rasulzadeh.
Rasulzadeh made a significant contribution to the formation of the ideas of the Azerbaijani statehood. He directed all his efforts to contribute to promoting the ideas of independence and prosperity of his country.
Rasulzade was born in the Baku village of Novkhani on January 31, 1884.
He took an active part in the formation of the ideas of the national identity of the Azerbaijani people, in connection with which he was persecuted by the tsarist government. In 1909, Rasluzadeh was forced to emigrate to Iran, from where he returned in 1913 and joined the Musavat party, and in 1917 he was elected its chairman.
In 1918, he headed the Azerbaijan National Council. Under his chairmanship, on May 28, 1918, the Council announced the creation of the Azerbaijan People's Republic.
After the occupation of Azerbaijan by the Bolsheviks, Rasulzadeh was arrested and taken to Moscow. Despite Stalin's persuasion, Rasulzadeh refused to cooperate with the Soviets and left the USSR.
In emigration, he lived in different years in France, Finland, Poland and Germany, wrote anti-Soviet articles, and brought to the attention of the world community the fact of the occupation of Azerbaijan by Soviet power.
In 1947 Rasulzadeh moved to Turkey and received Turkish citizenship. In 1949, he founded the Azerbaijan Cultural Circle in Ankara.
In Turkey, he continued to write books and hold various conferences on the topic of Azerbaijan's independence.
Mammad Emin Rasulzadeh died in Ankara on March 6, 1955 and was buried in the Asri cemetery. -06B-

On November 26, the Baku Court of Appeals reviewed the appeal of human rights defender Anar Mammadli, who contested the extension of his detention. Mammadli's lawyer, Javad Javadov, stated that Mammadli argued the extension of his pre-trial detention was unfounded and linked the criminal prosecution to his human rights activities, Turan reported.

On November 26, a group of reserve officers from the Nakhchivan special forces held a protest near the Azerbaijani presidential administration. The protesters participated in the 44-day war and were discharged after sustaining injuries. They claim that the payments they are entitled to have not been provided.

On November 26, the Baku Court of Appeals heard a complaint regarding the extension of the detention of former diplomat Emin Ibrahimov. During the hearing, the investigator requested that the complaint be rejected, while Ibrahimov's lawyer, Aghil Laidj, pointed out the lack of grounds for keeping Ibrahimov in custody.

Arrested economist Fazil Gasimov has reportedly faced pressure after protesting the interruption of a phone call with his family on November 16. "The phone call was cut off, and Fazil demanded that the connection be restored. Then, Jalal Alizadeh, a detention center officer, along with his colleagues, forcibly removed Fazil from the phone room in the medical unit of the facility, tearing his jacket and dragging him across the floor before throwing him into a cell.
