Attempt to enter into the apartment of Nakhchivan defenders
This afternoon there was an attempt to enter into the apartment and Nakhchivan defenders Ilgar and Malahat Nasibovs. According to Ilgar Nasibov, unknown man tried to open the door in the unlock their apartment at Heydar Aliyev Avenue, Building 37, Apartment 91.
"The lock was badly damaged from the outside. It is clear that they stuck a pick into the keyhole, and tried to open the door. They could not open the door , but seriously damaged the mechanism," Nasibov told Turan agency.
He believes that such could b done on the part of secret services, because there are no thefts Nakhchivan. "The doors of shops, apartments and institutions are practically open, there has not long been cases of theft," he said. The human rights activist said that he came home by accident, because he and his wife were going to go to the village to a wedding party of relatives. "Our phones are tapped, and probably someone decided to take advantage of our absence," he said.
On the background of unprecedented pressure on civil society in Baku, the prosecution of the only human rights defenders in Nakhchivan seems logical. Nasibovs believe that a provocation is being prepared against to blame them of illegal activities.
Malahat Nasibova is the head of the Resource Center for Democracy in Nakhchivan, and is also a journalist. Nasibov also works at the Center, and collaborates with a number of media.
In previous years, Nasibovs were regularly harassed and persecuted for criticizing the local authorities and the protection of citizens' rights. -02В-
