Clashes Opposite Ministry of Education - 55 Believers Detained (Video)

A protest by believers opposite the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan turned into a clash with police forces today.

The protest was held to demand the abolition of the ban on wearing headscarves (hijab) in schools. About 200 religious people gathered outside the Ministry, chanting "Freedom for Hijab," "Freedom for Islam" and "Damn Zionists."

However, a police force of approximately 150 people began to break up the action. In response, the protesters threw stones and sticks at the police.

Dozens of people were detained. There are injured people on both sides. Even the deputy chief of the Metropolitan Police, Sahlab Baghirov, suffered a head injury.

Separate groups of believers are still protesting and resisting police.

The ban on the hijab was introduced in December 2010. In May 2011, another protest was conducted before the Ministry of Education. -26C -
