Davedi-Gareji: road, negotiations
Baku/24.05.19/Turan: On the territory of the David-Gareji monastery complex, near the border, the Azerbaijani side began to pave the road. Local guide Zviad Ananiashvili told InterpressNews that the Azerbaijani side has been building a road for about 2 days along the slope in the direction of the Chichkhituri tower.
According to him, the Azerbaijani side mobilized construction equipment on the spot.
"The Azerbaijani side has begun construction of a road near the Chichkhituri tower. The road is supposedly paved in the same direction. They have not yet reached the Chichkhituri tower, they probably have about 1-1.5 km left, maybe more," said Zviad Ananiashvili.
According to him, the Azerbaijani side carries out work on laying the road intensively.
The Azerbaijani side does not comment on this.
The message was spread on May 23, when the Georgian and Azerbaijani sides began negotiations in Baku on the delimitation of the state border.
The commission on delimitation of the state border, approved on May 10, is headed by its new leader, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsalia. The Azerbaijani Commission is headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov.
Since 1996, the bilateral commissions have been working on the delimitation of the Azerbaijani-Georgian state border, which has a length of 446 km. Delimited 70% of the border. The most sensitive issue remains the David Gareji monastery complex, a small part of which falls on Azerbaijani territory.
In Soviet times, the complex was on the territory of a military range and was actually deserted. -0-
