European Court of Human Rights Started Communication in Two Cases from Azerbaijan
Baku / 28.03.18 / Turan: The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has started communication on the complaints of two citizens of Azerbaijan, Natig Jafarli and Jeyhun Jafarov. The interests of both are represented by the lawyer Javad Javadov.
As the lawyer said in an interview with Turan, one of the applicants is Executive Secretary of the Republican Alternative Movement (REAL) Natig Jafarli. His complaint is connected with the unjustified arrest of August 12, 2016 on charges of abuse of official authority and illegal entrepreneurship. Subsequently, the measure of restraint was changed.
The ECHR declared admissible the consideration of complaints of violation of Article 3 (prohibition of torture), 5 (right to liberty and security), 11 (freedom of association) and 18 (limits of restrictions on rights) of the European Convention. The ECHR gave the government time until July 5 to answer the questions posed.
The second case is connected with the arrest on March 10, 2015 of the Shiite theologian Jeyhun Jafarov on charges of high treason. Subsequently, the measure of restraint was also changed with respect to him.
The defense raises the issue of violation of articles 3 and 5 of the European Convention and considers the holding of the two applicants in court behind iron bars as a sort of torture. The government has been sent questions, which must be answered before July 6. -03B06-
