The new goals of the development of cotton growing, problems with finding jobs in the labor market, the indicators of various years for the collection of cotton are the leading topics of today's press.
The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the development of cotton growing, noting the pace of development of this industry in Azerbaijan. The author recalls the meeting held in Barda recently on the development of cotton growing.
In 2015, 3,000 tons of cotton was harvested in the Barda district, and 21,000 tons was harvested in 2017.
Further, the author gives statistical data for 2017, speaking about the employment provided by cotton growing. The article also notes that cotton is expected to be sown in 22 regions of the country, and more than 300 million manat was allocated for the purchase of agricultural machinery.
The newspaper Echo publishes an article on the problem of finding jobs with diplomas and specialties in Azerbaijan.
Everything is complicated by the fact that often the labor market does not need lawyers or diplomats, but requires ordinary plumbers, electricians, nannies and other representatives of unskilled labor.
Hence the gap between demand and supply in the domestic labor market. In Azerbaijan, people with higher education diplomas are forced to replenish the ranks of citizens working in the unskilled labor market. All this happens because our labor market is oversaturated by university graduates and we do not have graduates of vocational schools. Today, among those who are engaged in unskilled labor in Azerbaijan, 30% are people with higher education diplomas.
The website Azadliqinfo.az comments on the accusation addressed to the Popular Front and Musavat parties, which ruled in Azerbaijan 1992-93, at the meeting in Barda, which said their government did not develop cotton growing. The author believes that this accusation is not true. The article notes that over the past 50 years, the lowest indicator of the development of cotton growing took place in 2009, and this is the sixth year of the reign of Ilham Aliyev. In 2009, 31.9 thousand tons of cotton was harvested. -0----

The closure of Azerbaijan's land borders was discussed during the parliamentary session on November 25. While the government’s decision cites the coronavirus pandemic as the main reason—despite the World Health Organization declaring its end last year—Zahid Oruj, Chair of the Human Rights Committee in the Milli Majlis, pointed to other factors. He stated, "Opening the borders could result in an influx of hundreds of thousands of non-Azerbaijani refugees due to the Russia-Ukraine war. Additionally, in Iran, many are prepared to cross into Azerbaijan to safeguard their lives and assets amid military strikes. Such waves of refugees could lead to humanitarian, social, and cultural clashes that may threaten political stability."
