Freedom House: Azerbaijan Remains in List of "Not Free Countries"
Washington D.C. / 06.02.19 / Turan: The Washington-based international organization Freedom House published the report "Freedom in the World 2019".
The report states a serious weakening of democracy in the United States. This is expressed in particular in the consistent pressure of President Donald Trump on the rule of law, journalists and democratic norms.
According to the report, a rich elite stratum of the countries of Eurasia abuses its position to maintain power.
Welcoming the democratic process in Uzbekistan and Armenia, Freedom House criticized the Russian Federation and Azerbaijan.
So, Freedom House again referred Azerbaijan to the category of "not free countries". The neighbors of Azerbaijan - Armenia and Georgia are included in the group of "partially free".
In general, for 13 years now there has been a regress in securing freedoms globally, the report says. 86 countries were recognized free (44%), 59 countries (30%) partially free, and 50 countries (20%) not free.
Syria, South Sudan, Eritrea, Turkmenistan, North Korea, Equatorial Guinea, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Central African Republic and Libya are recognized as the worst among the worst. -16D--
