Ilham Aliyev is offended at European Parliament
Azerbaijan has stopped relations with the European Parliament because of the anti-Azerbaijani resolutions, said the head of state Ilham Aliyev, receiving on Thursday a representative of the faction of the Liberal Democrats and the Rapporteur of the program "Eastern Partnership" in Azerbaijan Norica Nicolai and a member of the European Parliament Iveta Grigule. The adoption of "offensive" and "unreasonable" resolutions was not the fault of Azerbaijan, which "only defended its just position," said Aliyev, calling the President and Vice-President of the European Parliament "part of the anti-Azerbaijani forces." "Their statements, attacks and slander have called into question the prospects of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Parliament," Aliyev continued.
The official report of the meeting does not have resolutions mentioned by Aliyev. He also does not mention specific names. However, there is no doubt that the talk is about several resolutions adopted in the autumn of last year calling to make sanctions against the government of Azerbaijan and the requirements to stop violations of human rights and freedoms. Tosupport these resolutions and the requirements; the head of the European Parliament, including Martin Schulz also called on to cease persecution and arrests of civil society activists.
It is noteworthy that when five years ago the European Parliament adopted a resolution to support Azerbaijan's position on Karabakh conflict Baku it called a "fair assessment" and welcomed the "principled position" of the European Parliament. -02D-
