International NGOs launch campaign in defence of Gubad Ibadoglu
Baku/13.09.23/Turan: International human rights organisations continue their campaign in defence of arrested Azerbaijani politician and economist Gubad Ibadoglu.
"Human Rights Watch" urged to sign a petition demanding the President of Azerbaijan to release Ibadoglu. You can support the petition on the account of the organisation's deputy director for Europe and Central Asia, Rachel Denber.
"Happy birthday to Gubad Ibadoglu, an activist from Azerbaijan. Happy birthday, my friend. Gubad turns 52 today, but he is spending his birthday behind bars after being arrested on trumped up charges in retaliation for his anti-corruption work.Gubad should not have to spend another birthday in prison. Call on the President of Azerbaijan to release Gubad Ibadoglu," she wrote.

"Publish What You Pay" (PWYP), an international transparency organisation, initiated a signature campaign on a petition on the eve of Ibadoglu's birthday demanding the Azerbaijani authorities release the politician. https://www.pwyp.org/pwyp-news/sign-the-statement-for-the-release-of-gubad-ibadoghlu/
"We issued a statement demanding his immediate release and call on companies and international institutions associated with Azerbaijan to use leverage to ensure Gubad is treated humanely and released immediately," the proclamation reads.

The collection of signatures will continue until 25 September.
On 12 September, a rally in defence of Gubad Ibadoglu was held in Washington in front of the White House. A group of activists, including his son Emin Bayramly, who is studying in the US, demanded the release of the politician.
The organiser of the rally, Murad Guliyev, said the demonstration aimed to inform international organisations and especially the US administration about Ibadoglu's case.
The participants called on the US, EU and international organisations not to remain indifferent to the persecution of citizens in Azerbaijan for their beliefs and to contribute to the release of Ibadoglu and all other political prisoners. -16/06В-

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
