National Council Condemned Arrest of Khadija Ismayilova
The National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) condemned the increased repression against civil society activists and the arrest of the journalist Khadija Ismayilova.
As noted in the document, after the presidential elections in 2013 the Ilham Aliyev regime demonstrates intolerance for critical opinions.
In order to complete the accession of the authoritarian regime, they reinforced repression and increased the number of illegal arrests. In the statement, the names of about 10 activists arrested in just the last week were noted.
NCDF particularly marked arrest of the journalist Khadija Ismayilova for "absurd and ridiculous accusations."
NCDF considers that the authorities engender fear and despair among civil society and media.
It is also a challenge to the United States and the West, as well as the entire civilized world, acting in defense of democratic values.
The arrest of Ismayilova is associated with her investigative journalism and her serial social struggle against the dictatorship.
NCDF called for the immediate release of Ismayilova and other activists and for an end to repression. -05D--
