National Council: Official Baku has not learned lessons from the Ukrainian events

The session of the National Council of Democratic Forces ( NCDF) discussed the situation in the country and the international situation in connection with the events around Ukraine.

Referring to the political situation, the head of NCDF Jamil Hasanli focused on complete trials on the "Ismayilly case" and the ongoing judicial investigation against the activists of NIDA.

He called both criminal cases frivolous and called unfounded and politically motivated the accusations of the activists.

In this Hasanli noticed that the conviction in the "Ismayilly case" of the REAL movement's leader, Ilgar Mamedov, and the deputy chairman of the party Musavat, Tofig Yagublu, was condemned by three states of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council (U.S., UK and France).

During the session, attention was focused on the explosion in the building where the headquarters of the Popular Front Party was situated, and the demolition of the object.

It was noted that a preventive investigative journalism group investigated the causes of the explosion and the condition of the building. Conclusions of the authorities denied the version that the cause of the explosion was allegedly improper use of gas equipment, as well as the poor condition of the building.

PFPA leader Ali Kerimli regarded the incident as a provocation to deprive the party of its office. However, he recalled that at the same time were administratively arrested seven activists of the party.

Referring to the events in Ukraine, Kerimli welcomes support from official Baku during the UN General Assembly vote on the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

However, in his opinion it is not enough and the Azerbaijani authorities should learn from the Ukrainian events and go for reform.

Kerimli called the events on the Independence Square an example for countries wanting freedom.

The session called for the OSCE, the Council of Europe and the EU to exert serious pressure on official Baku to reform.

But the society should be consolidated and structured in the struggle for democratic reforms.

However, it was stated that due to the increasing importance of Azerbaijan to the

West, official Baku can use the situation to tighten repression against Azerbaijan.

Deputy chairman of the "Classic" Popular Front of Azerbaijan, Beybala Abil, focused on the upcoming municipal elections in December.

In his view, fair conditions should be ensured for the necessary changes in the election law. He proposed the establishment of cooperation between the opposition and the Venice Commission .

At the same time, the meeting criticized the insufficiently resolute position of the West and NATO in connection with the occupation of the Crimea.

This may encourage Russia to new acts of aggression.

The head of the party Open Society, Sulhaddin Akbar, regarded Russia's military exercises in Dagestan as a rehearsal plan to capture Baku.

The session decided to hold a special event to discuss the consequences of the events in Ukraine in the world and the region. -05C-
