Crimean Tatars want to create cultural and territorial autonomy
The Crimean Tatars in the Crimea intend to create a national autonomy. The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People has already started legal preparations for this step. This was announced by the deputy of the State Council of the Crimea, Refat Chubarov, to the agency Kryminform.
"For no one can ignore the fact that the Crimean Tatars have their own destiny in their own land," said Chubarov.
According to him, the Majlis shall apply "to all governments with the requirement to ensure the right to self-determination of the Crimean Tatar people. According to Chubarov, preparing for the decision about creating an autonomous status, the Majlis representatives studied the Russian Constitution and the constitutions of the national republics of the federation.
Now an extraordinary session (kurultay) of the National Congress of the Crimean Tatar people is being held in Bakhchisaray.
