Prosecutor"s Office Finds "Guilty" of Events in Nardaran (UPDATED)
The General Prosecutor's Office made a statement, rather reminiscent of a verdict, in which it reported that the deputy chairman of the "Popular Front Party not having the legal registration" Fuad Gahramanov was summoned for questioning as a witness on December 8.
During the investigation it was found that since September Gahramanov on his page on Facebook «regularly called on citizens to disobey the authorities and committed acts that incited hatred between different religious currents in Islam."
"There are good reasons to conclude that the appeals from Fuad Gahramanov to Nardaran citizens contributed to religious extremism," the statement said.
"Gahramanov tried to justify the creation of an armed extremist group by Taleh Bagirzadeh, which committed serious crimes in Nardaran, urging residents of the village to prepare for open struggle and violent seizure of power and holding long protests with the aim of changing the constitutional order," said the Prosecutor General.
On this basis Gahramanov is accused of calling people against the state (281.1) and inciting hatred (283.2.1), and he was arrested by a court decision.
The prosecutors also rejected media allegations of infringement of Gahramanov’s rights. -02D-

On 8 December, Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Fuad Gahramanli was detained in his apartment and taken to the Investigation Department for Serious Crimes of the Prosecutor General's Office.
His family was not reported on the reasons for the detention. Gahramanli managed only to inform by phone that a criminal case started against him.
Late in the evening of 8 December, he was taken to the Nasimi District Court of Baku for the selection of a preventive measure against him.
Gahramanli is charged under articles 281.1 (Public calls against the state) and 283.2.1 (Inciting national, racial, social or religious hatred and enmity with the use of violence or threat of violence) of the Criminal Code. Turan was told by the Deputy Chairman of PFPA Gezal Bayramli. According to her, it is not clear exactly what acts are incriminated to Gahramanli, but we know that the charge is connected with the Nardaran events.
"Whatever the charges are against Fuad Gahramanli, we certainly know that they are fabricated. Fuad Gahramanli was detained for his consistent and principled struggle for the democratization of our country," said the PFPA leader Ali Kerimli. -03B06--
