The Armenians can have cultural autonomy in Karabakh - I. Aliyev
Baku / 22.10.20 / Turan: The Armenian population of Karabakh, after its return under the control of Baku, may be granted cultural autonomy, President Ilham Aliyev said on Thursday in an interview with the Japanese edition of Nikkei.
“The Armenians living in Nagorno-Karabakh are our citizens. They can be sure that their safety as citizens of Azerbaijan will be ensured. They will live better after the elimination of the criminal junta in Nagorno-Karabakh,” he said.
In support of his words, Aliyev stated that “thousands of people of Armenian origin” still live in Azerbaijan, and there is an Armenian church in the center of Baku.
According to Aliyev, the Armenian population can be granted cultural autonomy similar to what exists in European countries, where residents receive "certain rights in their municipalities, in their communities." -02D-

Azerbaijan is positioning itself as a key energy partner for Europe amidst growing challenges in the natural gas market following the cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine. The disruption, marking the end of a decade-long transit route, is expected to heighten competition in the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market and drive up prices for alternative energy sources.
