The U.S. State Department on Combating Terrorism in Azerbaijan
The U.S. State Department released an annual report on combating terrorism in the world in 2012
In respect of Azerbaijan, it says that the country is actively fighting the terrorist organizations involved in trafficking through the countries of the Caucasus, money laundering and smuggling.
The country has always been making anti-terrorism efforts and achieved some success in this, according to the State Department.
The report notes that on January 19 last year, DHS arrested two citizens who planned the murder of two Jewish men in the rabbinical school in Baku. At the same time, the search is also for the third person who is in Iran. Authorities reported the supply of these individuals with arms and money by Iranian security forces.
In March, DHS announced the arrest of 22 Azerbaijani citizens who collaborated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps to prepare terrorist attacks against Western countries.
April 6, 2012 DHS conducted an operation against armed extremists in Ganja. As a result, a law enforcement officer was killed and killed one militant. During the raids conducted across the country, 17 people were arrested, who seized weapons, ammunition, hand grenades, and means of communication.
In May, security forces arrested 40 people, preparing terrorist attacks during the contest "Eurovision".
The report points to Azerbaijan's cooperation with leading international organizations working to combat corruption, money laundering and terrorism.
The country has adopted 15 laws, 4 Code and amended more than 100 articles of the legislation.
In the section of the report dealing with the radicals and fight armed extremism, it is noted that the government prohibit the sale of religious literature and the show on television programs on this topic.
Religious rites and ceremonies are allowed to carry out only by the priests who have received education in Azerbaijan.
