Visit of Head of Musavat, Arif Hajili, to USA
Baku / 21.05.19 / Turan: The head of the Musavat Party, Arif Hajili, paid a visit to the USA from May 6-21, where he met with officials and representatives of American public and political circles.
According to the press service of Musavat, during the visit, Hajili met with the Director of the Department for the Caucasus and Regional Conflicts of the US Department of State, Alicia Ellison. During the conversation, along with issues of democracy and human rights, ways of resolving conflicts that impede the achievement of sustainable peace in the Caucasus were also discussed. In particular, they talked about the necessary steps to resolve the Karabakh conflict.
The situation with human rights in Azerbaijan was also discussed at the meeting of Hajili with the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy and Human Rights, Michael Kelleher. The serious consequences of the violation of fundamental freedoms, including freedom of speech and expression, for Azerbaijan were discussed. The issue of political prisoners was also discussed. An exchange of views took place on the further development of relations between Azerbaijan and the United States. In addition, Hajili met with the Department of State"s official representative for Caucasus affairs, Department of Human Rights Democracy Human Rights, Wendy Silverman.
During the meeting, the general political situation in Azerbaijan and the region was discussed. They spoke about the problems created in Azerbaijan for the activities of political parties and public associations, and ways to solve them.
During the visit, he also met with former diplomats and public figures, including former US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Kauzlarich, director of the Institute for Democracy in Eastern Europe Irene Lasota, Azerireport website editor-in-chief Gorkhmaz Askerov, leader of the National Awakening Movement of South Azerbaijan Mahmudali Chehreganly, representative of the Organization of National Revival of Azerbaijan Babek Chelebiyan, and others. Hajili met with a number of journalists and gave an interview to the Azerbaijani service of The Voice of America.

The short film “Fragments”, by Iqbal Abilov, a Talysh researcher arrested in Azerbaijan, was shown on November 14 at the Madrid Indie Film Festival (MADRIFF) in the capital of Spain. The film was presented by the author's cousin, renowned stand-up comedian Idrak Mirzali-zadeh, who read a letter from Abilov to the festival participants.
