Azerbaijani athlete won the Olympic bronze medal
An Azerbaijani athlete of Belarusian origin Julia Ratkevich won bronze at the Olympics in London in women's wrestling (55 kg). In the decisive battle for the bronze she won a landslide victory over the Russian woman Valerie Zholobova 2:0 (6:0, 2:1). Ratkevich started with 1/8 finals, where she beat Mary Prevolaraki from Greece, 2-0 (2-0, 1-0).
In the quarterfinals she lost to twice Olympic Champion, Japanese woman Saori Yoshida 2:0 (1:0, 2:0). However, the final output of the Japanese allowed Ratkevich to continue performance in consolation bouts for bronze. In the first consolation match she won a landslide victory over Kelsey Campbell from the US 2-0 (4-0, 1-0) and the following rival was Zholobova.
Thus, Ratkevich brought to Azerbaijan a fifth medal. Earlier Mariya Stadnik won the silver medal in women's wrestling (48 kg.).
In addition, the winners of the Games in Greco-Roman wrestling were two Azerbaijani sportsmen - Rovshan Bayramov (55 kg), who won the silver medal, and Emin Akhmedov (74 kg), who received "bronze". The bronze medal in weightlifting was gained by the 18-year-old Bulgarian Valentin Christov (56 kg), who performed for Azerbaijan and for whom it was a debut. Two more medals were gained by two boxers from Azerbaijan, Teymur Mammadov (91 kg) and Magomedrasul Majidov (over 91 kg), who performed in the semifinal game and preserve the chance to compete for "gold". - 06D
