Human rights organizations condemned the police violence against participants of the peaceful rally
Baku/21.09.16/ Turan: Monitoring Center for political prisoners condemned police violence against the participants of the authorized rally of the NCDF on 17 September. "About 40 people were arrested by the use of force, and taken to the Yasamal district police office and its branches. Among them were also journalists performing their professional duties. The video footage clearly shows that the rally participants did not violated the situation. On the contrary, the law enforcement agencies have grossly violated the rights of citizens to freedom of assembly and the law on police, and police exceeded their powers. Twelve young people were sentenced to eight days of administrative arrest," Turan wastold by the head of human rights organization Elshan Hasanov.
According to him, police violated the Article 10 (freedom of expression), Article 11 (freedom of assembly and association) of the European Convention on Human Rights.
The Centre urged the Attorney General and the head of the Interior Ministry to investigate the facts "of violence law by enforcement officials", and punish those responsible, as well as the release of the arrested rally participants. The center also condemned summon of the activists participated in rallies and providing pressure on them in recent days.—06C--
