Baku /19.03.19/ Turan: Tuesday March 19 is celebrated in Azerbaijan as Ahir Cherensba (last Tuesday) before Novruz. This is one of the three most important days of the Spring Festival.
The following is the Bayram Ahshamy (Evening on the eve of the holiday), celebrated on March 20.This year spring will arrive in Azerbaijan on March 21 at 01:58 a.m. Astronomically, the holiday coincides with the spring equinox (Vernal Equinox).
Novruz is traditionally celebrated in Azerbaijan for five days, and is accompanied by fun, games and feasts. Among the most important traditions are cooking sweets, decorating the table, where seed and honcha are necessarily present (sprouted wheat and a tray with dried fruits, dyed eggs). In 2009, Novruz was included by UNESCO in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Every year in Ahir Chershenba, Bayram Ahshamy people make fires and jump over it, leaving behind all the hardships and illnesses. Children knock the doors of others and collect treats, in the evening at the table they light candles. Spontaneous walks and dances with music are organized in the streets. -02B-
