Penitentiary Service did not allow Mehman Huseynov to meet with his mother
Baku / 02.08.18 / Turan: The prison service negatively responded to a request of a prisoner, a blogger Mehman Huseynov to meet with a seriously ill mother, lawyer Shahla Gumbatova wrote on her page on Facebook. The penitentiary service motivated its refusal by saying that Huseynov "evades participation in corrective measures". In particular, he did not participate in the "social life" of the jail, "cultural-mass events", "works on improvement."
In addition, he was not transferred to improved conditions of detention and there were no other encouraging steps in his respect. With this in mind, the Penitentiary Service found it inadvisable to grant him leave, the reply says.
* The blogger and the head of the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety, Mehman Huseynov, was sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment on March 3, 2017, on libel charges against the head of the Nasimi district police Musa Musayev. The reason for the claim was the allegations of Huseynov about torture against him in the police. Huseynov was arrested after he published a series of video reports on the facts of corruption among high-ranking officials and members of parliament. International organizations sharply criticized the arrest of M. Huseynov and demanded his release. -03B06-

The court ordered the property be returned to its rightful owner, Samaya Aliyeva. However, the Ministry of Justice intervened, citing a presidential decree from July 1, 2004, which approved a state program for improving the living and working conditions of refugees.
