Minister: "Turkey's food needs will grow by 50% in 25 years"
Baku / 23.03.19 / Turan: The Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Bekir Pakdemirli, said at the international economic forum in Turkish Uludag that the country's food needs will increase by 25% in 25 years.
Minister Pakdemirli said that none of the 14,200 agricultural cooperatives and unions in Turkey even ranks 200th in the world.
"We need serious cuts and reforms in this area. I tell farmers to go to the private sector and create their companies without fear of bankruptcy, as we will continue to support the private sector," the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry continued. Pakdemirli reported that Turkey has been successful in meat production over the past 15 years - from 400,000 tons to 1.1 million tons.
Bekir Pakdemirli was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Forestry in July 2018. After the elections in June 2018, the parliamentary system in Turkey was replaced by presidential rule. Unlike the parliamentary system, ministers are appointed by the presidential administration.
