A group of residents of the "Black City" holds a rally near the Presidential Administration

An employee of the Institute of Reporters Freedom and Safety (IRFS) Rasim Aliyev was detained today while covering the protests of tenants  of the "Black City", which was held in front of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan.

 
About 200 people came to the administration building, demanding fair compensation for demolition of housing. "They offer a thousand manat per square meter, but we ask for one and a half thousand, the sum which is paid to  the rest of the residents. Why there is such a discrimination against us?" said one of the tenants.
 
Employees of the presidential administration pushed the protesters from the administration building to a nearby square. At the same time, they have detained a journalist and confiscated his camera. Later, the journalist was released and  hi camera was returned, but all  footage was removed. 
 
In the  area called "Black City" old houses are being demolished,  and new luxury hotel named “White City” will be built along the coast.-06B-
