Azerbaijan among the main buyers of weapons from Israel

Baku / 11.03.19 / Turan: Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) published a report on the state of the world arms trade; the document noted that Russia and the United States were the main exporters in this area in the period from 2014 to 2018.

It is noted that the global volume of arms sales in 2014-2018 increased compared with the previous five year period by 7.8%. The largest suppliers - USA, Russia, China, France and Germany - accounted for 75% of the total. Russia and the United States together supply more than half (57%) of global arms exports, reports TASS.

The largest importers of weapons were Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Israel, Qatar and Iraq. The Middle East accounts for the main growth in deliveries, in other regions they, on the contrary, have declined.

Over the past five years, Russia has delivered the main weapons in 48 countries. 55% of the exported Russian weapons went to India, China and Algeria. Shipments to the Middle East increased in 2014-2018 by 19%. Egypt and Iraq were the main recipients of Russian weapons - 46% and 36% respectively. Over the past five years, sales to Iraq have increased by 780%, to Egypt - by 150%.

Over the same period, the United States increased its sales by 29%, and their share globally increased from 30% to 36%. 52% of US shipments were to countries in the Middle East.

France and Germany increased their sales in 2014-2018 by 43% and 13% respectively. And in the past five-year period, the total volume of military exports of the EU countries amounted to 27% of the world total.

The export of Chinese weapons over the last five years has grown by 2.7%. For comparison: in 2009-2013, its arms shipments grew by as much as 195%. China has reduced its imports of weapons, but the country is still among the main importers - in this list, the PRC ranks sixth.

Smaller exporters - Israel, South Korea and Turkey - increased their volumes by 60%, 94% and 170%, respectively.

The largest buyers of weapons and military systems of Israeli-made steel are India, Azerbaijan and Vietnam.

According to unofficial data, the volume of purchases of weapons by Azerbaijan from Israel during this period amounted to at least $ 4 billion. -02D-
