Foreign Minister: Armenia is responsible for the deterioration of the situation
At night on 2 April the Armenian armed forces using heavy weapons shelled the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces across the contact line of troops, and attacked them. The artillery fire was used against civilian population, said Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Hikmat Hajiyev.
Due to the deliberate provocative and irresponsible actions of the Armenian side, there are dead and wounded civilians, serious damage was caused to private property. The international community should strongly condemn the actions of Armenia. The responsibility for this situation falls on Armenia, emphasized Hajiyev.
Armenia's aggressive actions on the front match the anniversary of the occupation the Kalbajar region of Azerbaijan in April 1993 by Armenia. Due to occupation of the Kelbajar region the UN Security Council adopted resolution 822 (1993).
This and other UN Security Council resolutions 853 (1993), 874 (1993), and 884 (1993) demand complete and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian troops from Azerbaijani territories.
As repeatedly stated the Azerbaijani side, the stay of the Armenian armed forces on the occupied territories is the main obstacle to resolving the conflict and the reason for the continuing incidents. -06D-
