Mother of convicted blogger Zaur Gurbanly threatened with dismissal
Sakina Gurbanova, the mother of the blogger Zaur Gurbanly sentenced to 8 years imprisonment, can lose her job.
As Gurbanova told Turan, the Apsheron city polyclinic refuses to issue a medical certificate to her for the provision at the workplace. Gurbanova, who works in High School No 47, reported that she was ill from 1 to 30 April. In turn, the school management threatens her with dismissal if she does not submit a letter from the polyclinic.
The agency tried to clarify the position of the polyclinic (tel. 3424861) and the school (tel. 4409301), but the phones of both institutions did not respond.
Sakina Gurbanova believes she is being persecuted for political reasons.
Zaur Gurbanly was sentenced to prison along with seven other youth activists on charges of organizing mass disturbances.
Local and foreign human rights activists believe the charges brought against the activists were rigged. Amnesty International has recognized the arrested members of NIDA « prisoners of conscience." -0 –
