Court of Appeal Leaves Polad Aslanov in Custody
Baku / 25.06.19 / Turan: Baku Court of Appeal considered the complaint about the arrest of the founder and editor of the website Xeberman.com, Polad Aslanov, accused of treason. As his wife Gulmira Aslanova reported, her husband again pleaded not guilty.
At the trial, he reiterated that he was being prosecuted for publishing articles about the illegal actions of MIA officers. The court dismissed the complaint and left the journalist in custody.
Aslanov was detained on June 12. The next day, the court chose a measure of restraint in the form of arrest for a period of 4 months in connection with the charges against him under Art. 274 (high treason) of the Criminal Code.
Local and international organizations condemned the criminal prosecution of Aslanov, finding that the true reason for Aslanov"s arrest is his journalistic activities. -06D--
