A political scientist's view of Iranian-Azerbaijani relations, judicial points in connection with the former head of the executive power of Ganja, and the reasons for the joining of several parties to the ruling New Azerbaijan Party are topics of today's media.
The website Metbuat.az cites the opinion of the political scientist M. Asadullazadeh regarding the Iranian-Azerbaijani relations. He believes that the reactionary wing may win in the upcoming presidential elections in Iran in June, which will worsen the bilateral ties.
Unlike the reformers, the reactionaries have always put pressure on Azerbaijan. In this regard, Azerbaijan should not invest in Iran, and not allow Iran to participate in construction projects in Karabakh.
The website Müsavat.com writes about the trial against Yunus Safarov and 11 other people accused of the attempt on the life of the former head of the executive power Elmar Veliyev and the subsequent events in Ganja.
They are accused of almost 30 articles of the Criminal Code, including attempted murder, terror, and illegal possession of weapons. Safarov's lawyer Bakhtiyar Hajiyev put forward a petition for the delivery of Elmar Veliyev himself, but his representative did not agree, since the condition of his client does not allow this. Judge Afgan Hajiyev also read out the doctor's conclusion sent to the court in one of the clinics in Turkey. The medical diagnosis said that Elmar Veliyev was not able to understand what was said, or to convey his opinion. His mental and physical condition does not allow this.
In turn, lawyer Javad Javadov brought to the attention of the court that Veliyev has a notarized power of attorney for the representative representing him in court: “If his mental and physical condition is not normal, how did he issue the power of attorney? However, the judges did not grant any of the motions made by the defense lawyers.
The Yenisabah.az website discusses the issue of joining several parties to the ruling New Azerbaijan Party. The merger took place at the 7th Congress of the ruling party on March 5. These parties were: People’s Democratic, Peasants, National Salvation, and National Movement.
The chairman of the Great Azerbaijan Party, Elshad Musayev stated that all these parties were inactive.
He noted that his party did not join the NAP, as they have different positions. The ruling party preaches the administrative emirate methods, and not the rule of law.

In 2017, the Sumgayit City Court ruled to evict the Aliyev family—refugees from Gubadli (Akper, Sarvinaz, Ramil, and two other family members)—from an illegally occupied apartment in the 12th microdistrict, Building 7A, Apartment 35. The court ordered the property be returned to its rightful owner, Samaya Aliyeva. However, the Ministry of Justice intervened, citing a presidential decree from July 1, 2004, which approved a state program for improving the living and working conditions of refugees. Under this directive, refugees without alternative housing cannot be evicted until they are provided with a replacement residence by the Executive Authority.
