Media Review November 27, 2019

The development of the railway in Azerbaijan, the likelihood of an increase in the cost of diesel fuel, and the discussion of the issue of foreigners buying housing in Azerbaijan are topics of today's media.

The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the development of the railway in the country, the implementation of large infrastructure projects, such as East-West and North-South. All roads within these projects are connected in Azerbaijan, the author writes. It also recalls the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and the Alat International Trade Port. Paraphrasing the famous statement, the author notes that all roads lead to Azerbaijan.

The website Yeniavaz.com writes that from next year the price of diesel fuel may increase. Next year, the Ministry of Taxes plans to collect 76 million manats of road tax for fuel produced in the country and sold on the domestic market. The 76-million tax will be collected at 88% from gasoline and diesel fuel. Further, the author provides more detailed explanations and digital calculations of the version of increasing the cost of diesel fuel. Currently, the road tax applied per ton of diesel fuel is 23.8 manats.

The website Modern.az discusses the issue of foreigners buying housing in Baku. They are allowed to buy housing, but there is no land. The author also claims that the purchase of apartments and private houses by foreigners causes concern among the local population. This is due to the fact that with an increase in demand for housing, prices also rise. Experts, in turn, believe that there is no reason for concern. In 2018, over 2 thousand apartments were bought by foreigners. This is more than in previous years. These are mainly citizens of eastern countries. As for the offer on the housing market of Azerbaijan, there is plenty of it. In Georgia, for example, this kind of business attracts funds to the country. In Batumi, 40% of the houses built were bought by foreigners. On the contrary, it attracts currency to the country. -0-
