Saleh Rustamov is held in Main Department for Combating Organized Crime (MDCOC) by the representative of the ombudsman
Baku / 15.05.18 / Turan: The lawyers of Saleh Rustamov, the former head of the Gadabay region arrested on charges of drug trafficking, and his nephew Vidadi Rustamli can not meet with them. Taleh Tustamov, the brother of S.Rustamov, told Turan about this. According to him, the lawyers visited the MDCOC of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Baku pre-trial detention center-1. However, in these departments they said that S.Rustamov and V.Rustamli are not held there.
"We turned to the hotline of the ombudsman's office and the International Committee of the Red Cross. But their representatives had not yet been able to meet with my brother and nephew. We are very worried about them," T.Rustamov said. The ombudsman's office confirmed that the lawyer S.Rustamov really appealed to this department. According to the same source, the lawyer was informed that S.Rustamov was being held in the Interior Ministry's MDCOC.
In connection with the appeal of the lawyer, "the proceedings continue" and the representatives of the ombudsman will render the necessary assistance. S.Rustamov's lawyer filed an appeal and they will be considered on May 15 at 4 pm in the Baku Court of Appeal.
S. Rustamov was the head of the Gedabey Executive Power in 1992-1993, during the presidency of Abulfaz Elchibey. In the last 20 years he lived in Russia, and came to Azerbaijan 1-2 times a year. On May 8, on his return from a regular trip, he was detained in the Shamkir region. On May 9, the Narimanov District Court of Baku elected a preventive measure against him in the form of arrest for a period of four months. He is charged under Article 234.4.3 (illegal drug trafficking on a large scale) of the Criminal Code. On May 10, S.Rustamov's nephew, V.Rustamli, was arrested on that charge.
On May 12, Azad Badamov, a cousin of V. Rustamli, was also arrested on charges of illegal drug trafficking on his return from Turkey. On May 13, a citizen of the Russian Federation, Bahruz Tagiyev, was arrested and brought in Baku by a friend of V.Rustamli in Gedabey. -03B06--

On Tuesday, the General Prosecutor's Office announced the initiation of new criminal cases against agricultural product exporters who allegedly concealed their earnings abroad.
