Supreme Court Upheld Verdict on Mammad Ibrahim
Azerbaijani Supreme Court today rejected an appeal from the adviser to the head of PFPA Mammad Ibrahim, sentenced to three years in prison on charges of hooliganism.
During the meeting, the lawyer Yalcin Imanov asked the court to cancel the verdicts of lower courts and to release Ibrahim.
The accused said that he was arrested for political reasons.
However, the court upheld the verdict.
* Ibrahim was arrested on September 30 last year on charges of disorderly conduct (221.1) (the complaint was filed by Mikail Guliyev, a former member of the PFPA). Subsequently, this article was reclassified to a heavier charge on Article 221.2.2, on which Ibrahim faced up to five years in prison. During the trial at first instance all the prosecution witnesses confirmed Ibrahim's innocence and non-use of force against those found victims. Nevertheless, the Narimanov Court on March 15 admitted Ibrahim guilty and sentenced him to 3 years in prison. Human rights organizations have recognized Ibrahim a political prisoner. -B06 -

Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
