The Court of Appeal leaves Mutallim Orudzhev in custody
Baku/03.11.21/Turan: The Baku Court of Appeal rejected a complaint against the arrest of a member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Mutallim Orudjev.
He was returned to Azerbaijan on June 1 from Germany in the order of readmission.
Ten days ago, Orudjev was arrested on charges of drug trafficking.
On November 3, at the Baku Court of Appeal, he said that after being detained he was tortured by the police, his lawyer Neimat Karimli said. According to the investigation, 8 grams of heroin was found in Orudjev's possession.
"However, he does not plead guilty and believes that the arrest is due to his political activities in Germany," said Karimli's lawyer. It was not possible to get comments from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Orudjev is charged under the Article 234.4.3 (drug trafficking on a large scale) of the Criminal Code, under which he may face up to 12 years in prison. — 06D-
