The opposition celebrated the Republic Day
Baku/ 28.05.17/Turan: The Musavat Party and the National Council of Democratic Forces held rallies on the occasion of the Republic Day at the monument of one of the founders of the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic (ADR) Mammad Emin Rasulzadeh in the village of Novkhani.
Recalling the merits of the founders of the first democratic republic in the East, the participants of the rallies accused the current authorities of forgetting Rasulzadeh's ideas, deviating from the norms of democracy and justice, exploitation of national wealth and corruption.
The historian Nasiman Yagublu reminded that the founders of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic passed on to the descendants the ideology of democracy, human rights, equality of all before the law, electoral rights, gender equality, etc.
In 1991, a second attempt was made to restore the democratic republic, when the national forces headed by Elchibey declared the independent Azerbaijan Republic the successor to the ADR. However, this time the current regime, with the support of Russia and Iran, overthrew the democratic power by establishing an authoritarian and corrupt government that grossly violated human rights and civil liberties, Isa Gambar, the head of the Center for Strategic Thought, the idol of Musavatists, said. "But be sure that in the near future we will restore democracy in Azerbaijan and realize the ideas of the first republic," he said.
Today, the Azerbaijani people are proud of their first republic, but not the one that humiliates their dignity today, Musavat"s chairman Arif Hajili said. Today, this nation is responsible for the 30 million Azerbaijani population of Iran and other countries, and it will certainly restore its power over Azerbaijan, he said.
PFPA Chairman Ali Kerimli named May 28 Independence Day a sacred holiday, created by the people 99 years ago. The Soviet government tried to take it away from us, but now this attempt is made by the current regime - the successor of the Communist regime. But this people will never abandon the independence and values that the founding fathers of the ADR gave us, he said.
At the rally, condemnations were sent to the authorities that arrested the deputy chairman of the PFPA Gezal Bayramli on a falsified charge on the eve of the Republic Day. These accusations were met with appeals "Resign!"
