Helicopter crash: terrorist attack or disaster?

Baku/01.12.21/Turan: A day has already passed since the crash of the helicopter of the Azerbaijani border troops, but the cause of the disaster, which resulted in the death of 14 and the injury of two soldiers has not yet been established. According to the prosecutor's office, the "black box" was found, and the investigation began. The head of the border service Elchin Guliyev said at a briefing that it was in good condition, and his pilot was one of the best. According to Guliyev, the helicopter crashed while landing. Guliyev ruled out any external influence.

However, in social networks, many express doubt that the disaster was of a man-made nature and are inclined to believe that it was a provocation.

So, was the helicopter crash an accident or a provocation?

Security expert Ilham Ismail answered these and other questions in the "Difficult Question" program.

According to him, when disasters occur or a criminal case is initiated, various versions are put forward. In this case, there are two versions in the foreground: negligence or provocation.

“In connection with the incident, the Prosecutor General's Office opened a criminal case under Article 352.2 (Violation of flight rules or preparation for them, resulting in the death of two or more persons by negligence). And frankly, here by the primary signs - by the very essence of what happened, by how this crash happened and even taking into account the political situation against which this event took place, it is clear that most likely a catastrophe occurred. An analysis of the processes going on in the Ministry of Defense, in the Border Troops also makes one think that a catastrophe has most likely occurred,” Ismail said.

He noted that the video footage showing the helicopter crash shows that it did not fall apart in the air, but hit the ground. This suggests that there was no impact on the aircraft from the outside.

According to Ismail, the investigating authorities should find out: what caused the accident - engine malfunction, too strong wind, or something else?

“If, nevertheless, there was a provocation, then the National Security Service will be involved in the investigation, versions of the provocation and its likelihood will be put forward. The specialists who prepared the helicopter for the flight will be questioned, and the personal files of these specialists will be checked. Anything is possible - they could do it under the influence of external forces. If so, then any crime must have a motive. It will be necessary to find out about it,” the expert said.
