Congress of Azerros did not elect Soyun Sadykov for president
On Friday, in Moscow the V Congress of the Federal National Cultural Autonomy of Russian Azerbaijanis (NCFA Azerros) was held. This event attracted the attention of many in Baku in connection with the perception of the structure as opposition and an alternative to the official line of Baku. In addition, the President of Azerros Soyun Sadykov said engaging in political activities and was appointed a trustee of Russian President Vladimir Putin. He also issued strident accusations against the official Baku and in particular the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora.
The situation was heated by accusations of Azerbaijani officials and media that Azerros is controlled by the Kremlin, which also initiated the creation of the "Union of Billionaires" - meeting of the richest Russian Azerbaijanis.
Many assumed that the new President of Azerros will be Abbas Abbasov (former First Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan), who some time ago came to Baku and met with President Ilham Aliyev. But Abbasov was elected the head of the Council of Elders.
In accordance with the changes in the Charter of the organization, the President's powers were reduced, and executive functions were transferred to the Council of Elders.
The Council of Elders, in turn, recommended and approved Asif Maharramov as the new President of NCFA.
According to some media reports, during the Congress Abbas Abbasov expressed support for the position of another opponent of Baku - Rustam Ibrahimbekov.
The further fate of Soyun Sadykov is not clear. But he had previously announced plans to set up a political party. -02B-
