Eldar Hasanov stopped being treated at State Security Service (SSS) hospital - protection
Baku/26.08.21/Turan: Treatment of the former ambassador of Azerbaijan and ex-Prosecutor General Eldar Hasanov in the military hospital of the State Security Service (SSS) was interrupted, and he was again transferred to a pre-trial detention center, where he is not provided with any medical assistance, said lawyer Javad Javadov.
“After the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan announced that the criminal case against Hasanov was sent to court, he made his statement through his lawyers on August 16.
On the morning of the next day, August 17, his treatment was interrupted and, without any explanation, Hasanov was returned to the pre-trial detention center. After that, no treatment is carried out and his condition deteriorates again,” Javdov wrote on Facebook.
According to him, communication continues between the ECHR and the Azerbaijani government on the application of Article 39 of the Rules of the European Court of Justice in relation to Hasanov's state of health.
At the same time, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court Chingiz Askerov, speaking at the ECHR on behalf of Azerbaijan, wrote to the Strasbourg Court on August 20, claiming that Hasanov was being treated in a hospital and allegedly "manipulating the situation." Askerov asked the ECHR to suspend interim measures.
According to the lawyer, the defense sent an appropriate response to the ECHR and hopes for an adequate response from the Strasbourg court.
On August 16, Hasanov made a statement and rejected all charges, stating that he was the victim of slander against him by two persons in power, whose names he did not name. Hasanov also complained about the bias of the investigation and the failure to provide him with timely medical assistance, because of which his health deteriorated sharply.
Earlier the lawyer and relatives of Hasanov stated that he often loses consciousness and cannot move because of a serious spinal illness. On June 2, he underwent surgery at the hospital of the State Security Service.
* Eldar Hasanov was detained on August 13, 2020 by employees of the State Security Service on suspicion of abuse of office and misuse of budget funds.
He is being charged under five Articles of the Criminal Code: 179.3.2 (misappropriation), 193-1.3.2 (legalization of illegally obtained funds), 308.2 (abuse of office), 308-1.1 (misuse of budget funds) and 313 (official forgery.) Hasanov is charged with embezzlement and misappropriation during the period of his work as the ambassador of Azerbaijan to Romania, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro from 2010 to 2020. The talk is about embezzlement of more than 180 thousand euros in total in the course of renovation work and the acquisition of premises for embassies.-06B-
