Joe Biden criticizes Trump for ignoring Karabakh conflict
Baku/14.10.20/Turan: US presidential candidate from the Democratic Party Joe Biden made a statement in connection with the hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh.
“The breakdown of the ceasefire announced on October 10 and the resumption of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh worries me very much. The use of UAVs, mortars and long-range artillery installations leads to the death of hundreds of people on both sides of the front and the forced withdrawal of thousands of civilians from their homes,” Biden said.
Biden points to the passivity of the Donald Trump administration since the beginning of the escalation, and not to intervene in the conflict.
“Since the start of military operations on September 27, neither President Trump nor Secretary of State Pompeo has ever called the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Instead of yielding diplomacy to Moscow, Washington should work with European partners to bring the parties to the negotiating table, Biden said.
“The Trump administration must tell Azerbaijan that it will not tolerate a military solution to the conflict. At the same time, Armenia should be told that the regions around Nagorno-Karabakh cannot remain under occupation forever, and reliable negotiations on the final settlement of the conflict should begin immediately after the ceasefire is reached.
Finally, we must stop tolerating Ankara's whims and call on Turkey and Iran to stay away from the conflict,” Biden said.
“Reaching a diplomatic resolution will be difficult, but the Trump administration must try to achieve it. This must be done urgently before the conflict expands and more people die, "Biden said. -16D-
