US Assistant Secretary of State held telephone conversations with Bayramov and Mirzoyan
Baku/11.01.23/Turan: A telephone conversation between Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried was held the other day.
The sides discussed issues of bilateral relations and the current situation in the region, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry's press service reported.
Bayramov said that the Armenian side has frustrated "constructive initiatives of the Azerbaijani side related to the normalization of Azerbaijani-Armenian relations."
Also, he stressed the violation of Armenia's commitments under the trilateral statement of 10 November 2020, which was expressed through the use of the Lachin road to deliver to Karabakh and placing mines there, illegal economic activities and plundering of natural resources, the illegal transfer of citizens of third countries.
Bayramov dismissed as unfounded the claims of a "blockade" of Armenian residents and a "humanitarian catastrophe" in the region, because the road is not closed.
Note that the road is used daily by Red Cross vehicles, Russian peacekeepers and other vehicles for humanitarian purposes.
Despite the Azerbaijani side's assertions that the road is open to Armenian residents and its readiness to assist them in case of need, separatist leaders prevent the Armenian population from using the road, Bayramov said.
The sides also exchanged views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest, the report concluded.
Note that on the same day, Donfrid also had a telephone conversation with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
The State Department's Twitter account said, "Assistant Secretary of State Donfrid urged Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov to immediately begin seeking a diplomatic solution allowing the movement of goods through the Lachin corridor. She urged both Ministers to re-engage in the process of achieving lasting peace," Donfrid stressed. -06В-

On Friday, the Baku Serious Crimes Court continued the proceedings in the case of opposition politician Tofiq Yagublu. Yagublu's lawyers requested the summons of additional witnesses, including members of the National Council of Democratic Forces, opposition activists, and Yagublu’s wife, Maya Yagublu. Contrary to the prosecution's claims that Yagublu was involved in handing over money to facilitate a visa for Elshan Huseynov in the Zabrat settlement, his lawyers argued that he was actually attending a National Council meeting in the Pirshaghi settlement at that time. Witnesses can confirm this. The court partially granted the request, deciding to call four additional witnesses. The next court session is scheduled for October 18.
