What"s behind the sharp criticism of the Araz Azimov to the EU?
Representatives of the EU used to express intention to travel to
Nagorno-Karabakh. They motivate it by the fact that the EU has something to promote measures to tackle the problem, or the representatives of Brussels must attend the region. In this case, they refer to the fact that the EU representatives visited Abkhazia and Transnistria, Turan was told by the Azerbaijani MP Rasim Musabeyov commenting on sharp reaction of the Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov to the plans of a special representative of EU, Philippe Lefort to visit Nagorno Karabakh.
According to Musabeyov, Azerbaijan has its own position on the matter, and if the EU Special Representative really wants to go to the Nagorno Karabakh , then he should enter it from the Azerbaijani side.
Secondly, the trip should be in the context of acquaintance with the life of the Azerbaijani and Armenian communities of the region. Finally, all possible programs of the EU assistance programs in Nagorno Karabakh should be made only with the consent of Azerbaijan.
"If Lefort wants to go to Nagorno Karabakh, he must first come to Baku, inform the purpose of their mission, and we have to decide if he should go or not," concluded Musabeyov.
The head of the research center "East-West", Arastun Orujlu, believes that the strong reaction of Baku to the plans of Lefort are not related to the Karabakh conflict settlement.
"I think it is the consequences of the recent meeting in Brussels of the Foreign Minister Elmar Mamedyarov with European Commissioner, Stefan Fule. In the open meeting Füle
made a public message that Azerbaijan need real reform within its international obligations," said Orujlu. He added that probably behind closed doors Mammadyarov was told about the need to comply with the European rules of the game, and to ensure fair and democratic elections.
"However, the fulfillment of such demands is equivalent to the collapse of the ruling regime in Azerbaijan. Not wanting to openly reject the demands of Brussels, Baku decided to respond to the statements of Fule indirectly, through criticism by Asimov to the EU and
International mediators in general. However, this is an agreed statement, and not the amateur by Asimov," said Orujlu. -02/06В-
