Decisions on treatment of O. Guyalyalyev are made every ten days - Heydar Aliyev Foundation
Baku/09.12.19/Turan: The health of the human rights activist Ogtay Gyulalyev remains serious. He is in a heavy coma. Every day he has a fever, reported his spouse Firuza Gyulalyeva.
Due to infection in the lungs and blood, Gyulalyev was given antibiotic injections for a month. However, because of excessive administration of antibiotics in the kidneys and liver of the activist, creatinine levels increased. Therefore, for three days now antibiotic injections have been discontinued. The injections of drugs for the kidneys and liver began to be introduced. Doctors do not predict the awakening of Gyulalyev from a coma.“ Ogtay fell into come because the surgery in Azerbaijan was done with an 18-hour delay. Therefore, no doctor is taken to predict that after how many months Ogtay can get out of a coma. Everything will depend on the resistance of the organism itself,” F. Gyulalyeva said. As for the place of further treatment and financing of medical care, she noted, “A few days ago we spoke with a representative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. They said that depending on the conclusion of the doctors, a decision would be made whether to leave Ogtay in the "American Hospital" of Istanbul or not. Today, doctors concluded that as creatinine levels in the kidneys and liver increased, treatment should continue. So far, a representative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation has not contacted us. Therefore, we are not aware of whether the Fund will continue financing treatment or not,” F. Gyulalyeva said. The Heydar Aliyev Foundation told Turan that in connection with the treatment of Gyulalyev, decisions are made every 10 days depending on the health of the patient.
The Foundation reminded that with the support of this structure, Gyulalyev’s treatment continues at the Istanbul Hospital “American Hospital”. In connection with the treatment of patients supported by the Foundation, information is received every 10 days from the medical institution and based on these reports decisions are made about the subsequent stages of treatment.
A well-known human rights activist was hit by a car on October 29 in the center of Baku. From a stroke, he received a head injury that resulted in cerebral hemorrhage. A few hours later, the activist fell into a coma. On October 30, a neurosurgical operation was performed on him in Baku. Turkish specialists who arrived on November 5 at the invitation of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation to examine Gyulalyev recommended to take him to Turkey for treatment.
On November 6, he was dispatched by AZAL’s special flight to Istanbul and placed in the Avrasia Clinic. On November 19, he was transferred to the American Hospital, where the next day he underwent another neurosurgical operation to remove fluid from the brain.
