Press Review 04.24.2017

Guarantees to economic development, the likelihood of opening currency exchange offices, and the mass abortion of “girl fetuses” are the leading topics of today's press.

The newspaper Azerbaijan writes that the reforms have increased the export potential of the economy. As a result of the decisions taken in 2016 and the reforms that were launched, in the three months of this year the non-oil sector increased by 2.4% and the agricultural sector - by 3.5%.

Over three months, more than 80 thousand jobs were opened, the author assures.

Echo publishes an article on currency exchange points, the opening of which is beneficial to the Financial Markets Supervisory Authority (FIMSA). FIMSA is not financed from the state budget and actually lives at the expense of bank fees. Therefore, it will become an additional official source of income for FIMSA.

However, the number of currency exchange points will be scanty, since entrepreneurs will not be interested in this because of the lack of a 4% margin and a fall in money turnover.

Bizim Yol writes about the alarming signal of the State Statistics Committee about the increase in the number of abortions due to the fact that the fetus is a girl.

Still, giving birth to a boy is more prestigious and more honorable. Thus, in January-February 2017, 24,648 babies were born in the country. That is, 418 babies were born daily. Among them, the proportion of girls is 47.3%. There are 112 newborn boys per 100 newborn girls. The biological norm is 105-107.–0---
